We’ve just been told that one of the charities that Hiba support, Ellie’s Friends, has been awarded ‘Charity of the Year’ at the 2016 Communiqué Awards!
The Communiqué Awards champions communication in the healthcare industry. Ellie’s Friends were shortlisted against some stiff competition: the other finalists were Beating Bowel Cancer, The Brain Tumour Charity, Genetic Alliance UK and Pancreatic Cancer Action. The awards ceremony took place at the Grosvenor House Ballroom on 7 July 20163 and were presented by comedian Jason Manford. The judges said: “Ellie’s Friends focuses on a very specific method of distribution and, given that it is a very new, very small organisation, should be given particular credit for the effectiveness of its corporate engagement work, which is extremely go-getting.” Watch the judges video here:
Ellie’s Friends is a wonderful online platform enabling adults living with cancer to access free or discounted products and services in their area and for them to enjoy life – not just survive. We offer the Hiba Meal for Two each month and we have really enjoyed meeting some very, very brave people – all who have enjoyed our food and hospitality.
Here are a couple of the comments from two of the winners. ‘I just wanted to say a huge thank you for our meal today. The food was delicious and we really enjoyed visiting Hiba Express’. ‘We did ask the waitress to pass on our thanks. We had a lovely meal last night. It was a lovely treat to spend time together. We really enjoyed the food, there was so much that we took our pudding home! I am sure we will be back in the future.’
